Protect and save bees in Mauritius
The Issue
This petition is not about one person, it is about the bees. It is about protecting our environment, securing our food systems, and preserving life for future generations.
Bees are not just insects, they are essential pollinators that support our food systems, biodiversity, and environment. Without bees, life as we know it would be at serious risk. In Mauritius, The Bee Guy has been actively rescuing and relocating bees, along with many of his beekeeping friends, who also educate the public and protect colonies that would otherwise be destroyed. This work is not only valuable, it is necessary to maintain the delicate balance of our ecosystems.
However, despite tireless efforts and the undeniable importance of bees, there are growing challenges in continuing this critical work. In order to operate effectively and legally, official permission and governmental support are required. Without this, not only does the effort to save bees suffer, but so does the entire ecosystem that relies on their pollination.
Bees play a crucial role in pollinating a large percentage of the crops we rely on for food, including fruits, vegetables, and nuts. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), about 75% of the world’s crops that produce fruits and seeds for human consumption depend, at least in part, on pollinators like bees. Beyond agriculture, bees are vital to biodiversity, helping plants reproduce, sustain wildlife habitats, and keep ecosystems stable.
In Mauritius, pollution, pesticide use, and habitat destruction are already threatening bee populations. Without immediate intervention and structured efforts like these, the island’s flora and fauna face a serious and growing risk.
Therefore, we call on the Mauritian government and relevant authorities to grant official permission to continue this work. We also urge the provision of support, resources, and collaboration needed to ensure the survival and growth of bee populations on the island. This includes creating safe zones for colonies, supporting education and rescue programs, and strengthening regulations around pesticide use and habitat protection.
Sign this petition to demand action and help protect the future of bees in Mauritius. Together, we can make a real difference.
