Protect Allen Park – Oppose the Sheetz Rezoning and Gas Station Proposal!
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and concerned citizens of Allen Park, URGE the Allen Park Planning Commission, City Council, and Zoning Board of Appeals to DENY the rezoning and variance requests for 15111 Southfield Road.
We have 15 gas stations within a 2 mile radius in our city and over 25 gas stations within a 3 mile radius!!! We DON’T NEED ANYMORE GAS STATIONS!!!
The Proposal Includes:
- Rezoning 15111 Southfield from C-5 Central Business District to C-5 with 24-hour indoor/outdoor dining and a 24-hour drivethru, placing drive-thru traffic directly behind and within 40’ of residential homes!!!
- Construction of a Mega-Sized 4-ACRE Gas Station, the size of a TRUCK STOP with: Two 36-foot wide entrance and exit on Park Avenue, less than 15 feet from Park & Southfield intersection!!
- 78,000 gallons of underground gasoline storage, almost double the city’s 40,000-gallon limit, and 6-7x the size of a neighborhood gas station!!!
- A location less than 200 feet from an existing gas station VIOLATING current law which requires 500 foot separation!!!
This project will:
- Create risky living conditions for local residents
- Increase crime and reduce property values
- Increase the risk of oil leaks, pollution, and overburden Allen Park’s resources and compromise its infrastructure
- Destroy the peace and quiet of nearby neighborhoods
- Increase traffic congestion and unsafe conditions
- Threaten the character of downtown and nearby residential districts
- Undermine Allen Park’s zoning protections

- Thursday, May 1 - Planning Commission Meeting at 7:00 PM (Public Hearing)
- Tuesday, May 6 - City Council Study Session, 6:00-7:00 PM
- Thursday, May 8 - Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting at 7:00 PM (Public Hearing)
We demand that city leaders:
- Protect our neighborhoods and enforce current zoning laws
- DENY rezoning and variance requests for 15111 Southfield Road
- Preserve Allen Park’s peace, safety, and character
