Proposal to change Roadside Drug testing Medicinal Cannabis
The issue
To the Speaker and the Members of the Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory
This petition as signed below calls the attention of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly to: Change the laws regarding Driving with THC in a persons system whilst not impaired. Prescription Medicinal Cannabis is widely used by many people in the Northern Territory. Due to the THC component, THC can be detected by roadside drug testing conducted by Police. If positive this will lead to being charged and court proceedings taken against you. As THC can stay in a persons system 3 or more days, even if the person is not impaired can be charged and lose their licence. The proposal is that changes be made that if a person has a legal prescription (in their possession), filled by local Pharmacy and NOT impaired that they not be charged and sent to court. This is similar to laws in Tasmania and with several other States changing their laws to keep up with modern medicine.
The Petitioners therefore ask that the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly: To change the law around driving with THC in a persons system whilst not impaired similar to Tasmania, New South Wales and changes happening in other states.
