The Issue

Growing up, I was often left in the dark when it came to understanding my own sexual health. Like many others in my community, I received sporadic and insufficient education on this critical topic, leading to confusion and misinformation. It’s a common struggle, where lack of awareness can lead to dire consequences, including sexually transmitted infections (STIs), unwanted pregnancies, and a lack of understanding about consent and healthy relationships.

In our local schools, sexual health education is either woefully outdated or simply non-existent. According to the World Health Organization, comprehensive sexual education has been proven to delay sexual initiation, reduce the number of sexual partners, and increase the use of protection—all of which contribute to better overall sexual health and well-being. Yet, our classrooms remain silent on these lessons, leaving our youth vulnerable.

We need to push for a curriculum that is not only informative but also inclusive. Our education system must include topics such as consent, sexual orientation, gender identity, and sexual health. These are the essentials of an informed education that respects and acknowledges the diversity of student experiences. The common health content areas that are specifically taught in schools by law is: Community health, consumer health, environmental health, family life, mental/emotional health, injury prevention safety, nutrition, personal health, prevention/control of disease, and substance use/ abuse. These pieces of content are broken down by grade level,  each grade has an expected standard that they are supposed to be able to take from these health content lessons.

Furthermore, we must see sexual health awareness campaigns extend beyond the classroom. Communities should provide accessible resources and safe spaces for individuals to learn, ask questions, and seek help regarding their sexual health. This can dramatically improve public health outcomes.

Inaction is no longer an option. By signing this petition, you're supporting a future where sexual health education is prioritized and accessible to all, leading to empowered, informed communities. Let's urge our educational leaders and policymakers to implement comprehensive sexual health education programs and community outreach initiatives that reflect the needs of the 21st century.

In Pleasure. Protection. Prevention. we strive to bring attention to sex education, safe sex practices, and prevention of unplanned pregnancies. We aim to provide youth and young adults with access to medically accurate information. We intend to inform the public on personal safety, consent, and self-care.  We also seek to end the stigma surrounding the discussion of sexual health.

Please sign this petition to advocate for sexual health awareness and education in our community, for ourselves and for future generations.
