Promote Safe and Vibrant Community Parks-Save Sur La Brea Park in Torrance, CA

The Issue

The lights on the pickleball courts and tennis courts no longer come on at night, and the Park is now dark and devoid of activity in the evenings.  The City of Torrance has hung chains and padlocks on both tennis and pickleball courts ready to shut down the courts.  More 700 residents have raised their voice asking the City to justify this drastic decision.

Vagrants are back at Sur La Brea Park.  There are now two homeless people residing at Sur La Brea Park.  One of the homeless individuals has settled near the pickleball courts for a period of more than 6 weeks.  The other individual sleeps under a tree close to gates where the City posted the restriction in hours of pickleball play.   One of the homeless individuals at Sur La Brea Park drinks alcohol, smokes marijuana during the day , and last week was seen naked near the women’s restroom at the park.   Several residents have called the police but the vagrants keeps on coming back.     Sur La Brea Park has reverted back to the way it was in the past, attracting vagrants and malicious activities.  Will there be a repeat of the incident which occurred at the Sur La Brea men's restroom?  In September 2021, a homeless person was found dead face down.

What kind of a community neighborhood park would you like to have?  Do you  believe residents should have  access to a public park in the evenings?    If you appreciate having an active vibrant community park in your neighborhood, and are opposed to a dark vacant park that attracts homeless people and drug users, please sign the petition.

*    I am not requesting any monetary donations. Donations are optional.  If you decide to donate the money goes directly to Change.org not to me.  Thank you.
