Project Enduring Peace Petition

To: Heads of Nation States, Ambassadors to the United Nations, Global Leaders, and Influencers

Those who sign this petition join together as concerned citizens of Earth to call upon leaders of all nations, diplomats, and global influencers to acknowledge that the continued practice of war is a form of social insanity that can no longer be tolerated. We urge them to gather in unity and commit to an international agreement—through a treaty or other enforceable formal statement or statements—to end the devastation of international warfare and thereby establish a global framework for an enduring peaceful resolution of conflicts.

This call is urgent because we stand at a pivotal moment in human history. Resources currently expended on planning, waging, and recovering from war must be redirected toward addressing pressing challenges of our time, such as climate change, environmental degradation, massive social displacement and the ills of poverty. Humankind must forge a new path, one that prioritizes peace over conflict, one that utilizes financial and human capital currently wasted on warfare for constructive purposes. An agreement with enforceable provisions to stop wars between nations is essential to this vision, and it will lay the foundation for a global "peace system," as detailed here:

Those who sign this petition join a growing movement of individuals from all nations who seek to prevent the dystopian future that looms ever closer. Our collective voices will pressure international leaders—especially those whose personal interests may oppose the cessation of war—to take action. The petition specifically addresses leaders of nation states and the United Nations General Assembly because they hold the power to initiate a treaty-making process.

The results of this petition, along with cumulative signatures, will be sent annually for three consecutive years to heads of state, UN ambassadors, and other relevant global influencers until meaningful peace negotiations begin. Our goal is to reach 100,000 signatures over the next three years.

The petition is sponsored by Project Enduring Peace—an organization founded and run by women whose mission is to foster lasting peace among nations as the foundation on which to build a less violent, just, and nurturing future for the children of generations to come. We believe in “people power” to create a world where peace is the cornerstone of every society. For more information about Project Enduring Peace, please visit: www.afww.org/project-enduring-peace

Petition:

As a concerned citizen of Earth, for the children of now and for all children to come, I add my name to this petition to express my profound commitment to ending wars between nations, thereby establishing for future generations a foundation upon which the global community together can build a civilization marked by peace within nations, justice, and wise environmental stewardship. With the proliferation of technology and weapons, the stakes have never been higher. War is grotesquely immoral, and it is imperative that we cease the destruction and waste it brings.

I stand in solidarity with Earth citizens of good will from every nation who, regardless of political, religious, or philosophical differences, agree that the time to reject absolutely wars between nations is now. We  join to advocate for a global peace system, and urge leaders to immediately begin work on the first step—an enforceable treaty that commits nations to resolve conflicts through diplomacy, cooperation, and mediation rather than force. This statement could take the form of a new agreement, a revitalization of the 1928 Kellogg-Briand Pact, which, though still in force, requires modernization, or revision of or replacement of UN Charter sections dealing with means of reinforcement.

I further call upon the United Nations to allocate the necessary resources to ensure the implementation and enforcement of this peace agreement.

Previous peace treaties and the founding of the United Nations sought to abolish war, but recent events in this past decade demonstrate that the world community must act or international conflicts and global instability will continue or worsen. Unlike past efforts seeking to end wars between nations, we now possess tools and we now experience relevant social conditions that make enforcement of an international peace treaty possible. Information describing key aspects of such a treaty is available here: PEP Treaty Information: www.afww.org/pep-treaty.html.

Our Appeal to Global Leaders:

The signatories of this petition believe in humanity’s capacity to reject warfare and create lasting peace. The peace system concept shows us the way forward, but it is international leaders who must take the necessary steps to make this our reality. For the sake of all Earth’s citizens, especially the children who will inherit this planet—we ask you to act now.

By signing this petition, I join countless others in advocating for a world where nations collaborate to uplift humanity, resolve conflicts through dialogue, and make lasting peace a reality.

Thank you.
