Our focus for Elements Project has shifted to prioritizing the redefining of Wayne County Animal Ordinance Chapter 10 Section 1, to redefine adequate shelter to include shade!! This shift is due to many factors, including time constraints at the Commissioners Meeting and summer heat quickly approaching! We know the chances of starting there and the first part of the legislation being passed is most likely to be successful and it’s a wonderful start! Time constraints and a hot summer on the way is the biggest factor in focusing our attention and goal on shade requirements! This part NEEDS to happen and if focusing our attention on that for now is what we need to do, then so be it.
There simply needs to be more consultation with the Animal Advisory board on the addendum for dangerous weather advisories and a more in depth and longer process for that part of the legislation.
I promise as the citizen’s ambassador on this, that the second half of our cause, Chapter 10 Section 4 addendum to require outdoor animals be brought inside during extreme weather advisories will be heavily worked on throughout the summer in concordance with the Animal Advisory Board and our wonderful shelter directors!! We hope to come to a resolution before this winter season!
