Prohibit Use of AI in Hiring, Recruiting, and Application Review Processes

Prohibit Use of AI in Hiring, Recruiting, and Application Review Processes
The Issue
It has become almost impossible for individuals to secure jobs and the exponential use of Artificial Intelligence in job hiring, recruitment, and application reviews is significantly contributing to this difficulty.
In a 2022 survey by Gartner, 42% of job seekers reported feeling unfairly assessed by AI-powered hiring tools, such as automated interviews or resume screenings. These feelings are not without reason or justification, as study conducted by the National Bureau of Economic Research assessed that AI systems have led to a 10% decline in the average individual's chance of being hired (The National Bureau of Economic Research, 2020).
AI-based hiring systems analyze thousands of data points, making it challenging for human competencies to compete against algorithm-based evaluations. Additionally, according to the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 67% of recruiters using AI rely on it for initial candidate filtering, which can inadvertently reinforce biases if not properly monitored.
The reliance on AI in hiring denies candidates the opportunity to demonstrate their people skills, leadership abilities, creativity, and other attributes that a person, rather than a machine, can understand and value.
I urge the relevant authorities to implement rules that prohibit the use of artificial intelligence in job hiring, recruiting, and application review processes.
