Prohibit Tony Hinchcliffe from Performing at Comedy Venues

The Issue

As a Puerto Rican American, I feel personally affronted by the recent racially insensitive remarks made by Tony Hinchcliffe during a Trump Rally at Maddison Square Garden, where he referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage". His comments not only showcase a lack of respect and understanding for the rich history, culture, and spirit of Puerto Rico but also contribute to the continued marginalization of the Puerto Rican community.

It's crucial to understand that these comments have repercussions; according to the American Psychological Association, impactful humor like this can reinforce stereotypes, foster discrimination, and exacerbate the struggles of marginalized communities.

Tony Hinchcliffe is a regular performer at The Kill Tony Podcast hosted by The Comedy Mothership on 6th Street, a platform that should be used to foster unity and entertain, not espouse hateful rhetoric. We firmly believe that such discriminatory remarks shouldn't be endorsed by granting Hinchcliffe a stage to perform on.

This petition seeks to express our collective disappointment and to encourage The Comedy Mothership and other similar venues to uphold their responsibility within the community and make clear that hateful rhetoric will not be tolerated. Let's ensure respect and dignity for all people and cultures is maintained on our stages. We kindly urge you to consider this call for respect and equity. Please sign this petition, and let's collectively say no to bigotry.
