Prohibit the Use of IXL Learning Platform in Virginia Schools

The Issue

As a concerned citizen and parent in Virginia, I've witnessed firsthand the frustration and anger that the IXL learning platform causes among our children. This online educational tool, while intended to enhance learning, has instead become a source of stress for students around the globe. The rigid nature of its question-and-answer format leaves no room for creative thinking or individual learning styles.

Moreover, studies have shown that excessive screen time can lead to increased levels of anxiety and depression among young people (American Academy of Pediatrics). With many students already spending significant time on screens for virtual classes due to the pandemic, adding additional hours for homework on platforms like IXL only exacerbates this issue.

Our children deserve an education system that fosters their love for learning rather than dampening it with unnecessary stress. We need to prioritize their mental health and well-being over rigid online platforms.

Therefore, we are calling upon the Virginia Department of Education to ban the use of IXL in our schools statewide. By doing so, we can ensure a healthier and more effective educational environment for our children.

Please sign this petition if you believe in creating a better education system that values our kids' mental health as much as their academic performance.
