Prohibit the Use of Fireworks in Tucson, AZ
The Issue
I am a resident of Tucson, AZ who has been personally affected by the use of fireworks in our city. My health has deteriorated due to the air pollution caused by fireworks. The smoky air makes it tough for even healthy individuals to breathe, let alone those who already have respiratory complications. Fireworks, unfortunately, are also causing considerable harm to our environment. After each festive season, it is heart-wrenching to witness the amount of debris left behind, distressing our wildlife and impacting the soil we treasure. Beyond the direct health and environmental repercussion, we cannot ignore the hazards linked with fireworks, like fire outbreaks and noise pollution that alarm our wildlife, pets, and community members (especially those with PTSD).
Statistically speaking, in the United States, more than 15,000 fires are sparked every year by fireworks, according to the National Fire Protection Association. Moreover, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reports that the pollutants released by fireworks degrade air quality, leading to health consequences. We cannot ignore these realities.
While we recognize and appreciate the joy and tradition that fireworks bring to celebratory events, we must also consider their implications on our health, environment, and the safety of our city. We are calling on local lawmakers to enact laws prohibiting the use of fireworks in Tucson, AZ. And instead, adopt environmentally friendly alternatives, such as drone light shows in place of fireworks.
Each signature collected can propel this conversation forward, making our city a healthier and safer place for us all. So, if you care for your health, the environment and the city of Tucson, show your support to ban the use of fireworks. Sign this petition.
