Prohibit the Private Use of Fireworks
Prohibit the Private Use of Fireworks
The Issue
Speaking as a long time pet owner, every holiday that involves fireworks is a specially agonizing time for my beloved dog, who suffers from extreme anxiety due to the noise. I am not the only one going through this; countless pet owners nationwide undergo the same ordeal. Pets and wildlife alike are detrimentally affected by the loud noises, sudden flashes, and air pollution caused by fireworks.
According to the RSPCA, 45% of dogs in the US show signs of fear when they hear fireworks, which cannot be healthy (Source: RSPCA). The loud noise created by fireworks often leads to pets running away in panic, resulting in thousands of lost animals every year around celebratory times. The British Veterinary Association also points out that aside from pets, fireworks can negatively affect wildlife by causing disturbance or harm to wild animals (Source: British Veterinary Association).
On the environmental front, fireworks constitute a considerable amount of noise and air pollution. Fireworks leave a heavy footprint on our environment, contributing to toxic air pollution and litter in our streets and oceans.
Given these facts, it becomes imperative that we impose restrictions on the private use of fireworks. Doing so would reduce the detrimental effects on our pets, wildlife, and environment. I urge you to help alleviate the anxiety of countless pets, the potential harm to wildlife, and lessen the environmental impact by signing this petition to ban the private use of fireworks.
