I live in an apartment complex where, distressingly, a dog is kept on a patio in all sorts of weather conditions. The poor animal is left out there 24/7, enduring heat, hailstorms, and freezing temperatures. Despite having a plastic dog house and access to food and water, it is clear that the animal is suffering, yet both my apartment complex and the local animal control have claimed there is nothing to be done due to the current laws. This scenario has made me feel helpless and pushed me to take action. 

 Across the country, countless pets are being subjected to similar or worse conditions. According to the Humane Society, exposure to extreme temperatures can lead to severe health problems in pets including hypothermia and heat stress.

It's time we advocate for change. State laws regarding pet ownership and their welfare should be revised. We're calling for a new law to make it illegal for pets to be kept on apartment patios, balconies or similar outdoor spaces in extreme weather conditions.
