I am personally involved in a distressing situation with a dog that is left outside 24/7. This poor creature has no human contact, no toys, and is confined to an unkempt garden with an unfit shelter. The level of distress this animal experiences is palpable and has caused significant anxiety amongst the neighbours. It's heartbreaking and unacceptable.

This issue goes beyond just one dog; it's about the welfare of all pets who are subjected to similar conditions across our nation. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), exposure to extreme weather can lead to serious health issues in dogs, including hypothermia or heatstroke (ASPCA).

It's time we take action against such cruel practices. We need legislation that prohibits pet owners from leaving their dogs outside in all weather conditions. Let us stand together for those who cannot speak for themselves - our beloved pets.

We need a new approach which focuses on the improvement of a dogs welfare and on promoting responsible dog ownership and training - this is an action that the animal welfare act takes in Switzerland.

 Let's make educating children on animal welfare compulsory - encouraging empathy and compassion for living beings is important for young people's personal development and would result in a step-change improvement in some of the welfare issues that impact the lives of animals today such as neglect, these are important life skills that will benefit society as a whole.
