Prohibit Emotional and Cognitive Abilities in AI and Non-Human Marriages

The Issue

As a cognitive science student at UOFM and a future law professional, I passionately believe it's essential to draw a line in advancing technology where the social fabric of humanity could be at risk. Giving Artificial Intelligence the abilities to experience emotions and have real cognitive abilities poses a risk that we may not be fully equipped to handle. It has been projected by experts in the field that sentient AI has the potential to misinterpret and misuse these "emotions" in a way that could be harmful to human beings (Bryson, Joanna, "Robots should be slaves," in Y. Wilks, Close Engagements with Artificial Companions: Key social, psychological, ethical and design issues, John Benjamins, 2010).

Furthermore, it is equally important to legislate against the possibility of marriages between humans and non-human entities, including AI. As we know, marriage is a deeply social and cultural institution, rooted in human connection and shared experiences. Allowing marriages of such kind could fundamentally distort the meaning and purpose of this institution.

This petition calls on lawmakers to make it illegal to develop AI with human-like emotions and cognition and to also ban marriages between humans and non-human beings, including AI. Sign this petition and let's hold the line on what it means to be human.
