Prohibit Corporations With Assets Over $10 Million from Purchasing Single Family Homes!

The Issue

Everyday hardworking Americans struggle to purchase homes, while corporations, like Blackrock and others, are buying more and more single-family homes. This corporate buying frenzy is driving up prices, pushing regular Americans out of the market, and preventing many from building generational wealth through home ownership. This situation is causing an unsustainable inequality in our society and this must stop.

The dream of owning a home is a foundational part of the American dream. Homeownership not only provides shelter but also aids in the establishment and proliferation of community values, the stabilization of neighborhoods, and the creation of generational wealth.

It is problematic when corporations, both US-based and foreign, with assets over $10 million buy these homes, not to live in, but as an investment strategy, causing a surge in the prices, making it increasingly infeasible for average Americans to own a home.

According to a 2017 study conducted by Harvard University, corporations own more than one-third of rental properties in the United States. This situation continues to worsen as more companies choose to invest in real estate as a business strategy rather than contributing to the sustainable growth of the communities that support them.

We need to level the playing field so that individual American citizens can compete fairly with businesses in the housing market. For this reason, we demand the immediate formulation and implementation of laws that would prohibit any corporation with assets of more than $10 million from purchasing single-family homes in the U.S. We ask our legislators to address this issue urgently, so that the dream of owning a home does not slip away from the average American citizen. Sign this petition and join the fight to preserve the American dream for us and for future generations.

I want to ensure that my children will be able to own a home. I am not part of a corporation. I am a man with a family who is watching the American Dream disappear as giant corporations with no desire to help Americans make it almost impossible to afford a home.
