Prohibit commercial bike operations in Kubwa, FCT
The Issue
I would like to urgently bring something to your attention regarding something that has been going on for some time now throughout Nigeria, especially in the Kubwa FCT area. Recently, there have been many serious and dangerous incidents where bike guys have been hurting passengers with knives and also harassing young girls.
Just the other day, two passengers took a bike from NNPC Junction to the Place Restaurant in the evening. The passengers agreed with the bike guy to pay ₦700, but when they got to the destination, the bike man demanded more money. When the passengers said, “No, we agreed to ₦700,” he proceeded to reach for his knife 🔪, forcing the passengers to immediately give him more money.
This is the type of thing that must stop immediately.
These bike guys have no accountability, and we do not know who they are. Most of them do not even have proper identification. There was another incident where a bike man again demanded more money; when the passenger said no, the bike man called other bike guys, and they jumped the young man and beat him badly.
You are receiving this message because we must urgently come together and put an end to this behavior by organizing a boycott against them. Many of these bike guys are carrying some type of weapon, which is not permitted under Nigerian law. When passengers are in danger, they have nothing to defend themselves.
Starting immediately, we will not be using bike men in Kubwa. We will only be using Keke (tricycles) for now. We will also speak with Keke drivers to ensure they are not allowing bike men to operate or transport through our community.
Below are the demands we will present to the local government:
- All bike men must be properly identified and must have a National ID
- They must have a digital transfer account – no more cash transactions
- The Kubwa Police must conduct random checks on bikes and riders for weapons.
These are just a few demands; there will be more to ensure the safety of our community. We must take this very seriously. There are many more cases of assault that will be shared later.
For now, please move forward with the boycott. Details will follow. Please sign the petition so we can confirm community support and move forward.
Enough is enough. We must protect our community.
We want all bike men removed from Kubwa until these demands are fully implemented. Please sign the petition so that we can begin the process. This won’t change until we come together and demand change.
