Production of Wet Food for Cats with IBD and CKD
The Issue
Our beloved 18-year old Taz was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD - Stage 3) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). As a result, he is often dehydrated and needs to be on a wet food diet. Despite numerous efforts, we haven't been able to find a suitable food option from major manufacturers such as Royal Canin, Purina, Hill's Prescription Diet, or Rayne, that is kidney-friendly and made from a selected/novel protein source to manage IBD.
CKD is affecting an estimated 30-40% of cats over 10 years and 81% of cats over 15 years [1]. Similarly, IBD is more common in middle-aged and senior felines [2]. Adjusting the meal plan and providing suitable diet options is crucial in managing these conditions and enhancing the quality of their lives. However, many of us are left helpless as we fail to find specialized dietary solutions for our furry family members stricken by both CKD and IBD.
We are asking veterinary food manufacturers for the production of renal-friendly wet food made with a novel protein source appropriate for cats with CKD and IBD. We believe this step would not only improve the life quality of our Taz but offer relief to countless other caregivers in a similar predicament.
Taz is still our playful kitty, chirping and chasing us around. A proper diet might grant us more cherished time before he crosses the rainbow bridge. Together, let's amplify the meows of our fur babies for a solution. Please sign this petition to show manufacturers that there is enough need and demand for a vet-approved wet/canned food suitable for cats suffering from both CKD and IBD.
Thank you,
Taz's pet parents
