Prioritise Mental Health Education and Support in Brisbane Schools
Prioritise Mental Health Education and Support in Brisbane Schools
The issue
My friend, a bright and promising young individual, tragically took her own life because she didn't receive the mental health support she needed. This is a heart breaking reality for many teenagers in Brisbane, QLD, Australia. It's time we take action to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
Mental health issues among teenagers are alarmingly prevalent. According to the National Survey of Mental Health and Wellbeing conducted by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, approximately one in four young Australians aged 16-24 years old experience mental illness in any given year. Despite this staggering statistic, our schools often lack comprehensive mental health education programs and adequate support systems.
We need our educational institutions to prioritise mental health as much as they do academic achievement. We call on Brisbane schools to implement robust mental health education into their curriculum and provide sufficient resources for students who are struggling with their mental well-being.
By doing so, we can help equip our youth with the knowledge they need about this crucial issue while also providing them with accessible avenues for help when they need it most.
Let's make a stand for our youth's well-being today - sign this petition urging Brisbane schools to prioritise mental health education and support now!
