The Week of Action for Afghanistan has started!

In the past month, over 180,000 people have signed the petition, over 3000 calls have been made to politicians, over 600 people attended an online campaign briefing on Zoom, and community groups have met with multiple Ministers and other Government MPs.

This incredible display of compassion and solidarity for the people of Afghanistan is having an effect. Responses from the Government make it clear they’re hearing us loud and clear, and we’re hearing word that the Government is making plans for its response in the next two weeks.

That means that this week is critical for ramping up the pressure.

The Week of Action includes daily events and actions that you can join, to help build that pressure. There will be videos to share, briefings on meeting your local MP, a calling party, and one last push to get the petition over 200,000 signatures before we hand it over to politicians on Friday!

Here’s what you can do to take part:

1. Check out and register for the list of daily events;

2. Share the Facebook video from prominent Australians calling for an additional 20,000 humanitarian visas for those most at risk (or Twitter).

Thank you for showing your support for the people of and refugees from Afghanistan over the past month. Now let’s get this over the line.

Yours in hope,

Barat Ali Batoor and Shabnam Safa,
on behalf of the Afghanistan-Australian Advocacy Network (AAAN) and the Diaspora Advocacy Network for Afghanistan (DANA)
