The killing of a leopard in Pune district, after being labelled a man-eater, has shaken many of us who care about wildlife and ecological balance in India. Environmentalists say this incident reflects a deeper governance failure in land-use and forest-edge planning. We are now at a point where quick, reactionary responses are pushing our wildlife into conflict — and costing lives, both human and animal.
We appeal to you to intervene and ensure that Maharashtra adopts a science-based, humane strategy to address human–wildlife conflict. Protecting human lives is non-negotiable — but the solution lies in fixing the landscape, not eliminating the wildlife that has been forced into disturbed spaces.
