Dear Auroville supporters near and far,

We hope this message finds you well, despite the global challenges humanity is currently facing.

Updates
In recent years, Auroville has endured serious challenges on many levels. The current Governing Board members and their secretary, Jayanti Ravi (a senior IAS officer), are attempting to normalize rigid top-down decision-making, rewrite over 50 years of history, carry out environmental destruction, impose a politically aligned educational system, and more.

Meanwhile, a disinformation campaign supported by the Governing Board portrays these changes and MoUs as successful and widely welcomed. In reality, many residents of different nationalities have left the community, unable to accept this governance style, which directly contradicts the spirit of the Auroville Charter.

Background
This petition was launched on 20th December 2021, following the unannounced forest clearing initiated by the secretary and a handful of her followers. After surpassing 50,000 signatures, we faced technical issues, which were only recently resolved.

As promised, we will now send our letter and the list of signatures (not disclosed publicly) to the respected Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, and forward it to the concerned authorities.

Our Request to You
Before concluding this petition, we kindly ask for your support in three ways:

• Spread the word. Share our situation with government and regional authorities, NGOs, activists, journalists, and influencers so that more people become aware of what is happening in Auroville.

Continuing Threats
Recently, more than 35 residents received threatening emails from imposed groups appointed by the Governing Board, demanding that they justify their right to live in Auroville.

Among those targeted are some of our longest-standing residents who, since Auroville’s early days, have dedicated decades of their lives to manifesting Auroville’s dream: contributing to education, infrastructure and village development, tree planting, sustainable farming, local economic growth, fundraising from India and abroad, and building schools and health centers.

These groups now threaten that long-standing residents will lose their Auroville “citizenship” if they do not meet newly imposed criteria.
