Dear petitioners,

THANK YOU for your support! We have reached a critical mass of 35,000 signatures and that during the holiday season when people have plenty of other topics on their minds.

The solidarity from outside means a lot to us. We were very encouraged to recieve a support statement from India's leading civil society network on system change, the Vikalp Sangam, in which they confirmed the importance of autonomy and plurality to keep the spirit of experimentation and innovation alive. How can we be truly creative if we live in fear of violence, oppression and deportation? It seems so obvious that it feels bizarre to need to reiterate this again and again....

While the Residents Assembly is trying to avoid further unilateral bulldozing, the Auroville community's own architects and urban planners are moving forward with a collaborative brainstorming process
called Dreamweaving to integrate the Galaxy concept and Masterplan framework in a way that is sensitive to local conditions. This is building on previous attempts at participatory design which have been ignored till date.

Residents are pinning their hopes on the firm contracted to make Detailed Development Plans, the Vastu Shilpa Foundation, lead by eminent architect Dr B.V. Doshi. They now have the choice to include inputs from this bottom up process and win back trust and a sense of ownership among the people. One major concern is that the Town Development Committee assigned by the Foundation secretariat sees itself as superior to the Residents Assembly and threatens to ignore anything but legal action.

In 4 days the Green Tribunal will decide whether to protect due process, and we are told that public opinion matters a lot. Which is why we keep asking you, our worldwide support base, to share this petition in your networks and help us reach 50,000 - the size of population that Auroville aims to grow towards.
