Next week, MPs will debate the annual state pension increase, and this is their only real chance to challenge the cruel “frozen pensions” policy that affects my 100-year-old WW2 veteran Mum, Anne, and nearly half a million others.

Because of this policy, Mum has been denied the yearly pension increases she earned through a lifetime of work and service. Her pension has been frozen for over 20 years simply because she moved to Canada to be near family. Today, she lives on a fraction of what pensioners in the UK receive.

What makes this even more unfair is that MPs are not even allowed to vote on this policy. It is kept in place through a separate process that avoids proper scrutiny. That means next week’s debate is their only real opportunity to object - but only if they choose to speak up.
