We received an update that Tongan scholars, heritage practitioners, business community and international scholars together in a humble show of love, affection and dedication to the heritage sites of Popua submitted this Petition with 950+ signatures to the Speaker of the House. It was noted by leadership that the Petition received wide support locally and internationally, with scholars and community from Tonga, the region and around the world as far as Aotearoa, Hawai'i, Australia, North America, Europe and beyond collectively drawing attention to the significance of the Popua heritage sites that supported expert testimony in the form of letters.
Local media was there, and Australia Broadcasting later interviewed top officials and international experts and dialogue was had amongst all, increasing media and public awareness of the significance of these sites.
The events ended with a request from the Parliament to the Petition organizers to submit urgently a translated Petition so that it could be fully considered and circulated in the Legislative Assembly.
Your voice, comments and signatures will be circulated amongst Tongan leadership on this important issue!
