Primary Healthcare for Atlantis in the Western Cape

Primary Healthcare for Atlantis in the Western Cape
The Issue
This a call on Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, Mayoral Committe Member Patricia van der Ross, City Health Management Dr Paul Nkurunziza, Dr Andile Zimba, Dr Vera Scott, Mr Ruberto Isaaks, Mrs Soraya Elloker, Dr.Lenny Naidoo, Ian Gildenhuys, Bettie Leedo, Jackie Hintenaus, Reinhardt Avenant, Gavin Heugh, Lena Stofile, Heinrich Fritz, Andy Lucas, Vivian Malgraff, Anzil Sampson, and Zanele Figlan to please help us get our Saxonsea- and Protea Park clinics in Atlantis over to Provincial care.
Wesfleur Hospital is unable to cope with the patient totals and, as a result, more and more people suffer. There are many issues that need to be addressed at the hospital but, one cannot addres those properly whilst we have our residents having to sit for up to three days waiting to be seen to.
Our people are dying due to the shortage of medical care, some die right there in the waiting room. Worst than this, be the years upon years of struggling under these inhumane circumstances all because we do not have any comprehensive primary healthcare facilities.
The Provincial Minister of Health Professor Nomafrench Mbombo has confirmed on 16 August 2022 that, the transferring of clinics from City of Cape Town to Western Province Health and Wellness is a smooth process. Province is ready to take on the clinics. The call however, is for the City of Cape Town to make.
As things stand, Saxonsea clinic and Protea Park clinic serve patients only up to the age of thirteen. Everyone above thirteen has to attend to the hospital for medical care - whether it be minor injuries or life-threatening emergencies.
Wesfleur hospital as it stands, is a temporary structure built with pre-fab some forty years ago. Unlike what one would expect from a hospital, Wesfleur Hospital does not have medical departments. Wesfleur hospital has mere sections with, the same staff moving from one section to the other to see to all sorts and all levels of medical needs.
If Atlantis has access to comprehensive primary healthcare services, it would mean that clinics would be equipped to deal with minor medical needs and, the Wesfleur hospital will be better positioned to deal with medical emergencies and -care that the clinics would refer to them. This will also allow for better chances of addressing any and all other issues in a more holistic and effective manner.
City of Cape Town moved nine plus one (later added) clinics over to provincial care in June/ July 2022. We as the community of Atlantis need you to please move our clinics as a matter of urgency and as the emergency it truly is. And not to wait for a next three-year phase process. We need our clinics to be moved to provincial care immediately please our people are dying!
Stop putting bandages on our pain and do the right thing! #PrimaryHealthcareForAtlantis #Atlantis7349
