We are very nearly at 6000 which is really great. Just to clarify, the ideal campaign outcome is to keep the current Girtrell facility open as it fully meets the needs of its service users and their carers. Wirral Council is consulting with users over their needs and we believe that this done openly and transparently will prove how vital a properly constructed residential respite facility is. Our bottom line demand is that the council continues to provide Girtrell as is unless and until they provide the promised "as good as or better" acceptable alternative. We do not think this is unreasonable and we thank you for your support for this. Keeping the service open means keeping current staff and staffing at viable levels to provide vital continuity. This campaign has already pressured the council into allowing respite bookings from April to June which they were not prepared to do until public opinion forced them into it. However this is not enough - we cannot plan or book our Summer breaks although I am sure that many councillors have already booked theirs. Bookings to September must be allowed NOW. Finally, whilst I am grateful for the wider support offered by you wonderful people from across the UK and indeed the globe, the focus of this campaign needs to be Wirral based as the council will only take notice of local opinion / voters so please mobilise as much Wirral based support as possible.
