In recent years, China has been increasing blockade drills around Taiwan. Xi Jinping intends to take over the island nation by 2027 with force if necessary, and the recent drills suggest that a blockade may happen sooner than that.

President Trump and his administration must unequivocally state that the United States will NOT defend Taiwan militarily in the event of a blockade. A U.S. military defense of Taiwan will result in devastating cyber and/or EMP attacks on our electrical grid. Therefore, the Trump Administration MUST engage in a strategy of diplomacy that protects Taiwanese citizens from total Chinese Communist Party rule, pre-empts a blockade and helps the U.S. buy time to protect the electrical grid and utility infrastructure from EMP attacks.

David Pyne of the Real War Newsletter has mapped out such a strategy. It would involve mediating a peace agreement between China and Taiwan. The U.S. would remove its troops from Taiwan and oppose any Taiwanese attempts toward achieving independence. A Chinese Union allowing Taiwan to maintain most of its sovereignty without adopting a common currency would be forged via a National Unification Treaty. A Union Council would also be established to allow for fair representation by China and Taiwan. The Treaty would allow Taiwanese citizens to retain their basic freedoms. Most importantly, the treaty would allow the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to relocate manufacturing capabilities to the U.S. If TSMC chose not to do so, sales of advanced semiconductors to the United States and its allies would continue without Chinese interference.

If China were to breach the agreement and interfere with the self-governance of Taiwan, the U.S. could sanction China by completely decoupling its economy from China.
