Prevent Unnecessary Polar Bear Killings in Iceland

POLAR BEAR KILLED FOR LANDING WITH A DRIFTING ICEBERG TO SHORES OF ICELAND by LARS OLE MORTENSEN
WHY THIS HAPPENED TO OUR POLAR BEAR? VIKINGS CHERISHED I LOVE POLAR BEARS...I WOULD HAVE PAID TO HAVE THIS POLAR BEAR FLOWN BACK TO GREENLAND. SO SAD.

The unjust shooting of a polar bear, who simply landed upon the shores of Iceland with a drifting iceberg, has sparked outrage and sorrow in many, including myself. This polar bear, a symbol of the Arctic's beauty and strength, was senselessly killed for simply seeking food in an unfamiliar environment. Communities highly regard their resident wildlife, but when one of our beloved Polar bears finds their way across the ocean, our handle of the situation falls short.

Tragically, the bear was shot out of concern for the safety of residents. In this particular case, the only person still occupying the nearby summer cottages. But the bear's reported 'threat' was merely him rummaging through unsecured garbage—a situation that could have easily been resolved with secured bear-proof bins. It calls into question the need for a stronger approach towards co-existing with these majestic creatures.

What's most painful for many of us to reconcile with is that we would have gladly paid to have this polar bear safely transported back to Greenland. Similar, successful transportation efforts have been made in the past, proving its feasibility.
