Southampton City Council held a cabinet meeting last night (15th July) to discuss and make a decision on Southampton International Airport Ltds proposal.
In a disappointing move, the panel decided to approve the plans without objection.
There has been no public consultation for such drastic changes to a public open space. In fact we were only alerted late last week in a minor local news article. The public were not given a chance to voice their opinions.
I fear that the council, as cash strapped as it is, would rather a quick and easy solution to this rather than risk a possibility long and drawn out, as well as extremely expensive court battle.
The details of the promise of replacement trees, bat boxes and some repairs and upgrades to local public amenities have already been diluted and continue to be vague or misrepresented.
But there is still hope!
People are working on some of the finer environmental and ecological damage objections, and I'll hopefully be able to report on them soon.
For now, please keep on sharing!
Thank you.
