The Issue

For decades, the public parking lot at Broadway and Spruce in Downtown Boulder has been a vital resource for our community. With 59 spaces available, it has faithfully served residents, church-goers, shoppers, restaurant patrons, employees, and visitors alike. This parking lot is more than just a convenience; it’s a crucial part of the infrastructure that supports local businesses and maintains the unique charm of our downtown area.

Now, the City of Boulder is considering an irreversible decision: selling this invaluable public asset to a private hotel developer. If we allow this sale to proceed, we risk losing the accessibility and vibrancy that this parking lot provides. Once it’s gone, it’s gone forever, and with it, a piece of what makes Boulder special.

The businesses in Downtown Boulder depend on accessible parking to thrive. A private hotel development at this location will not only eliminate these vital parking spaces – it will push visitor parking to nearby residential streets and in front of homes.

Furthermore, affordable and accessible parking is critical for the residents who frequent this area. Many people, especially those who cannot afford expensive private parking fees or find alternative transportation challenging, rely heavily on this public resource. Eliminating these spaces disrupts daily lives and diminishes the quality of life in Boulder.

Please sign this petition to urge the City of Boulder to keep the parking lot at Broadway and Spruce a public asset, protecting our vibrant community and the businesses that many of us cherish.
