Prevent the risk of closure of Ratby and Groby Village Post Offices

The Issue

Petiton by Ozzy O'shea - County Councillor

As the County Councillor for both Ratby and Groby, it's personal to me because I am well aware of the crucial roles the Post Offices in both villages fill to serve our community. I've seen first-hand the reliance of our local residents, especially the elderly who depend on these offices to withdraw pensions, pay bills, and complete their banking. Royal Mail's recent decision to withdraw sorting office facilities from these locations is an impending threat to our community.

This decision, which implies a six months closure notice, is quickly set to affect the vital mail and parcel services both villages currently enjoy. Our local postmen, who maintain a deep-seated connection to these villages, are disinclined towards relocating to the meridien sorting office. This implies that any undelivered parcels will have to be inconveniently retrieved from there, creating further hassle for our residents.

The financial implications of these closures are potentially dire, threatening the affordability and accessibility of postal services for nearly 10,000 villagers. It's essential to recognize that this is not just about losing an office facility but about preserving our close-knit community wherein these offices double as communal hubs. We cannot stand by as the needs of our elderly and local community are sidelined.

We call on Royal Mail to reconsider its decision to withdraw the sorting facilities in Ratby and Groby. Join Ozzy and both Ratby and Groby Parish councils, sign this petition to save our village Post Offices, for the sake of our community, particularly our elderly and vulnerable residents.
