The Issue

Living in Lenah Mill, Loudoun County, VA, means being part of a closely-knit community. My friends and I have been together since elementary school, forming bonds over laughter, shared projects, and countless memories. For over six years, these friendships have stood the test of time, becoming a cornerstone of our lives. However, proposed plans to rezone Lenah Mill to John Champe High School threatens to pull our community apart, separating us from friends we cherish deeply.

The importance of a stable educational environment cannot be overstated. Studies from the National Bureau of Economic Research indicate that continuity in schooling contributes significantly to both academic performance and social well-being. Disrupting existing friendships can lead to decreased motivation, increased stress, and adjustment issues among students.

Continuity matters. The American Psychological Association has documented that longstanding peer relationships contribute positively to social skills, emotional health, and academic success. Breaking up our community weakens these valuable dynamics, potentially impairing our growth and development.

Moreover, rezoning Lenah Mill into John Champe High School offers no tangible benefits to the community, instead creating logistical difficulties for families and increasing travel times for students. The current zoning aligns smoothly with existing transportation infrastructure, whereas any reconfiguration may strain these systems, leading to unsustainable commuting challenges.

Maintaining the existing zoning of Lenah Mill ensures that our ties remain intact while preserving community cohesion and educational consistency. Upholding our current school assignments prevents unnecessary disruptions, supporting students and families. Let's protect our neighborhood's unity and advocate for a decision that reflects our collective interests.

Join us in urging the Loudoun County School Board to reconsider and halt the proposed rezoning of Lenah Mill students to John Champe High School. Together, we can make a difference by voicing our concerns and preserving the well-established community ties that are vital to us all.

Sign this petition to keep Lenah Mill zoned within its current school boundaries. Stand with us to defend friendship, stability, and community integrity.
