The Issue

Please sign this petition to stop the culling of deer in Iron Mountain City Park. Together, let's safeguard the heritage of our park for current and future generations. There is also a GoFundMe if you would like to donate (donating through this website only goes to the website itself, please click on the GoFundMe link to donate) https://gofund.me/f72c5689b

For over 75 years, the deer have been an integral part of Iron Mountain City Park and our community. Generations have witnessed and cherished the sight of these gentle animals grazing and wandering, adding a serene charm to our neighborhood. The park is not just a green space; it's a sanctuary where nature and community coexist, and the deer are at the heart of it.

However, a recent decision to cull these deer due to budget constraints has stirred deep concern among us residents. There is an alternative to ending the lives of these innocent creatures. Rallying as a community, we believe we can come up with solutions, such as a fundraiser, to maintain the deer population and uphold the integrity of our park.

It is not merely about finances—it is about preserving a legacy, maintaining biodiversity, and fostering respect for all living beings. Ending these lives will irreversibly alter the very soul of Iron Mountain City Park. We, as a community, are ready and able to work towards a better solution.

We implore the city officials to reconsider their decision and to engage with us in finding a humane and constructive solution. With community effort, solutions like wildlife management programs, deer sterilization initiatives, and improved park facilities can be successfully implemented without resorting to lethal measures.

My name is Desiree Stafford and I would like to thank every single person who signed this petition. I created this petition not only to protect these deer, but also in honor of my late deer friend Smiley, who passed away in 2022. That deer completely changed my life and my perspective on deer. I hope to have my own deer sanctuary one day, because all deer deserve to live happily. These deer don't have a voice, so I will be a voice for them.

City Manager Stanchina is currently working on moving the small herd to an authorized and sanctioned location. Furthermore the motion was to eliminate the deer at city park. Not to kill or cull. Additionally the city does sanction an annual deer cull of the feral deer we are contending with.
