Prevent the Demolition of Kid's Kingdom Playground in South Bend

Prevent the Demolition of Kid's Kingdom Playground in South Bend
The Issue
My personal connection with Kid's Kingdom playground in South Bend, IN, runs deep. It is a place where my grandfather and father used to take my sisters and me as kids. In turn, I have taken my own children for playdates here along with my nieces and nephew. Even now as teenagers they like to go here to play hide and seek.... This playground is not just a collection of slides and swings; it is a treasure trove of memories passed down through generations.
Kid's Kingdom has been a community staple for decades. Built in 1991 by 5,000 community volunteers. It was even rebuilt and repainted after a fire in 2017 because of its sentimental significance. Its unique character sets it apart from newer playgrounds, making it an excellent spot for photos that capture cherished moments. More than just being aesthetically pleasing, this park was built by our community members themselves - making it truly one-of-a-kind.
However, this beloved local gem now faces the threat of demolition. While we understand the need for community growth and development, preserving spaces like Kid's Kingdom that hold community sentimental significance should also be prioritized. I am hoping this petition will save kids kingdom either as it stands or at least encourage community leaders to MOVE the playground in favor of their aims to consolidate the area.
We are not alone in this sentiment; countless adults who played here as kids now bring their own children to enjoy what they once did - creating an unbroken chain of shared experiences that could continue into future generations if we save Kid's Kingdom.
Let us stand together to protect this symbol of our collective childhoods from being erased forever. We urge the relevant authorities to reconsider their decision and explore alternative ways to accommodate growth without compromising on our city’s heritage.
Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving Kid's Kingdom for future generations to enjoy as we did.
