As residents who have worked hard for our investment in Bayonet Head, we are deeply disturbed and troubled by the proposal to build 36 social housing units in the relatively safe and family oriented community of Oyster Harbour estate.

There are not adequate amenities in the area to accomodate such a large, built up, over populated block of units. There are not enough parks, shops or public transport. We are largely concerned of having such an overpopulated built up area causing the crime rate to increase dramatically and cause issues for the existing tenants and home owners living in the area. There is not currently enough communication or support provided by social housing departments already. We fear this would be the case again, with current residents concerns being ignored. 

The rezoning of this area, originally zoned as commercial, has deceived us. It tricked local people into buying properties under the false guarantee of safety and tranquility. While also believing we would have access to more amenities in the near future. We feel betrayed, misled, and let down by those supposed to protect our interests, and we fear of the impact that this planned development could have on the quality of existing residents lives.

These 36 units could dramatically impact the areas current peace, and its unity. not only this, the city of Albany have almost completed building a daycare very close to the area these units would be built, we’re concerned that having a very large number of people living in such close proximity to the daycare also increases the risk of the children’s safety being disrupted.
