As the husband of a proud alumna and current parent of an Escontrias student, I am deeply concerned about the proposed closure of the early childhood and special education programs at Escontrias Elementary STEAM Academy in Socorro, TX. These programs are vital to our community, providing essential educational opportunities for our youngest learners and those with special needs.

The early childhood program at Escontrias has been instrumental in preparing children for their future academic journeys. Research consistently shows that quality early education can lead to long-term benefits such as improved school readiness, reduced need for special education services later on, increased graduation rates, and even higher lifetime earnings (National Education Association).

Similarly, the special education program at our beloved school has been a beacon of hope for families like ours. It provides tailored learning experiences to students who require additional support due to various disabilities. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates that all children with disabilities have access to free appropriate public education (U.S Department of Education). Closing this program would not only be detrimental but also potentially inhibiting students' access to these programs.

The closure of these programs would mean denying countless students in Socorro their right to quality inclusive education. We cannot let this happen.
