I am a proud graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy, an all-girls school in Nassau County, NY. My daughter is currently a student there. This institution has been instrumental in shaping the lives and futures of countless young women for 95 years. Now, we are faced with the heartbreaking news that our beloved school is closing at the end of this year.

Our Lady of Mercy Academy has been an integral part of our community since its establishment. It provides a nurturing environment where girls can grow academically and personally while being instilled with values that will guide them throughout their lives.

The closure would not only disrupt the education and personal growth opportunities for current students but also deprive future generations from benefiting from this unique educational experience.

According to data from National Coalition for Girls' Schools (NCGS), girls’ schools create a culture where academic achievement is valued and expected; on average, graduates from all-girls schools have higher SAT scores compared to their co-ed peers.

We must not let this beacon for female empowerment be extinguished. We urge local authorities and stakeholders to reconsider this decision and explore alternative solutions that would allow Our Lady Of Mercy Academy to continue its mission in educating young women leaders.
