Prevent The Closure of Georgetown Prep Tennis Club

The Issue

Its potential closure threatens to leave a significant void in our community's recreational options.  The Georgetown Prep Tennis Club has been an integral part of our community in Rockville, MD since 1992.   It's not just a place to play tennis; it's a space where families bond, friendships are formed, and children learn the values of sportsmanship and discipline.

We, the undersigned, are deeply saddened by the recent announcement of the potential closure of the Georgetown Prep Tennis Club.  With its incredible 32-year legacy of providing a premier tennis facility to the community, a closure would come as a great loss to tennis enthusiasts and athletes in our community.

We respectfully request that Georgetown Preparatory School reconsider the decision to close the Georgetown Prep Tennis Club and include indoor tennis facilities as part of its long-term vision. By doing so, the school will not only preserve a cherished institution but also demonstrate its commitment to the well-being and holistic development of its students and the wider community.

We urge Rev. James R. Van Dyke S.J., not only as concerned citizens but as beneficiaries of all that Georgetown Prep Tennis Club offers us - keep our beloved tennis club open! Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving this vital part of our community.

Please help us show the Georgetown Preparatory School’s leadership how much important their tennis facility means to the community by signing this petition and forwarding it to your network.

Thank you for your support.

The Georgetown Prep Tennis Club is worth preserving.

The club has played an essential role in promoting health and wellness among its members. Regular physical activity is key to maintaining good health, reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes and other chronic diseases (source: CDC). By providing a venue for such activity, the club contributes significantly to our community’s overall well-being.

Moreover, the club has played an important role in youth development. Over its nearly three decades of existence, countless young people have honed their skills on its courts under expert guidance. The loss of this facility could deprive future generations from similar opportunities for growth and development.

Lastly, the club employs several individuals who would face unemployment should it close. In addition to this direct impact on these employees' livelihoods, there would be indirect economic effects on local businesses that benefit from patronage by club members.
