Prevent the Closure of Croydon's Carer Centre

The Issue

UPDATE

We have been advised that there is a temporary reprive for the centre, but the council will not commit to how long this will be.

Carers First have also announced there will be staff redundancies.

It is unacceptable for our centre to be cut and we will continue to fight.

This is an update that I will addas although the petition is having a high impact, we still need to keep up the pressure as although the council has said the centre will stay open, they have not changed  the provider and are still going to use Carers First which we dont want and it needs to carry on with the Whitgift Foundation, that is what we all want. So keep signing the petition.

As someone personally impacted by the remarkable services offered by the Croydon's Carer Centre, it troubles me to no end that this valuable community fixture is potentially facing closure. For me, and for countless other carers both young and adult, the Centre has been a critical lifeline. It was there when I needed advice, it was there when I required assistance with benefit forms, and it was there when I sought a free bereavement counselling course.

The Croydon's Carer Centre, managed by the respected Whitgift Foundation, has not only served as a source of vital services but it also houses our beloved Carers Café, a respite room that provides us with a few hours to talk, socialize, share our stories and experiences with other carers - it's more than just a café for us.

Time and again, the Centre has proven its worth and value. It's deeply concerning that its future hangs in the balance without any consultation with those it directly assists, all in an effort by the Croydon Council to save costs. I urge the Council to reconsider this decision. We can't afford to lose a well-loved and well-utilized resource like the Croydon's Carer Centre. The carer community requests the Croydon Council to ensure the continued operation of this vital centre. The voices of those who depend on it deserve to be heard.

Please sign this petition to help keep the doors of the Croydon's Carer Centre open. The impact cannot be measured only in monetary terms, but in the lives it has changed and continues to change. It's worth far too much to us all to let go.
