Prevent the Closure of Bank of Scotland, Shore Street, Bowmore Islay
Prevent the Closure of Bank of Scotland, Shore Street, Bowmore Islay
The Issue
Our community in Bowmore, Isle of Islay is facing a significant challenge. The Bank of Scotland on Shore Street is set to close its doors in May 2024. This closure will have a profound impact on our lives as we heavily rely on this local bank for our financial needs. Many among us are not equipped or comfortable with online banking and cannot travel to Glasgow for banking services.
The older generation in our community has always relied on this bank for their financial transactions. They prefer the personal touch and security that comes with physically depositing their money into the bank rather than navigating complex online systems they are unfamiliar with.
I am personally affected by this impending closure as I find it easier to use the physical branch rather than resorting to online banking. Moreover, there are many disabled individuals within our community who depend upon this local branch due to accessibility issues.
Our island's population may be small but we deserve equal access to essential services like everyone else in the UK. According to data from National Records of Scotland, Islay had a population of around 3,228 people in mid-2019 (source: National Records of Scotland). Each one of us will feel the impact if this decision goes through.
We urge you not only consider us but also think about how your decision affects rural communities all over who face similar situations. Let's work together towards finding a solution that keeps our local bank open and serves everyone's best interests.
Please sign this petition and join us in urging Bank of Scotland management and relevant authorities not just save our local branch but also consider how important these institutions are for smaller communities across UK.
