Prevent the Annexation of Greenland by the United States
Il problema
I'm starting this petition because of a growing concern over the potential annexation of Greenland by the United States of America, spearheaded by President, Donald Trump. This issue is to me, for the deep connections with Greenland and the unique culture, people, and environment ( Inuit). The aim to expand American borders by incorporating Greenland as the 51nd state is not just an upheaval of demographics, but also a threat to the independence and identity of Greenland. With over 56,000 inhabitants (Statistics Greenland, 2019), each possessing inalienable rights to their self-governance, it's essential we come together to respect their sovereignty. The majority of Greenland's population has consistently expressed desire for more self-rule (Gallup Polls, 2019). Let's stand up for the preservation of this unique culture, its independent governance, and against any forced annexation. We must respect a nation's right to self-determination and stand with Greenland in its endeavor to maintain its identity. Please, lend your voice to this cause. Sign this petition against the annexation of Greenland by the United States.

«The United Nations Charter is very clear on territorial integrity and the principle of sovereignty, and has been signed by all member states» recalled the UN spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric. Returning to the topic of Greenland, the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot said that "it is out of the question for the European Union to let another country in the world attack its sovereign borders". And while German Chancellor Olaf Scholz reiterated that "borders must not be moved by force", Defense Minister Boris Pistorius recalled that international law "does not only apply to autocrats like Vladimir Putin, but even more reason for the leader of the free world."
The wall of Emmanuel Macron and Scholz fell immediately, but it appeared as the tremor of a Franco-German axis which in recent years has lost the strength that made it the driving force of the EU. But for many observers it is precisely Brussels' reaction that has been almost ambiguous. The Commission said that "the sovereignty of states must be respected" but also that "the EU looks forward to working towards a stronger transatlantic agenda with the next US administration". A spokeswoman recalled that Article 42 of the Treaty provides for the so-called mutual defense clause. "But it is something extremely theoretical that we do not want to delve into," they highlighted from Brussels. A sign that no one wants to take unexplored diplomatic paths.
Routes considered dangerous even by Denmark, which still maintains authority over Greenland. According to Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, there is "reason to rejoice at the growing American interest" in the Arctic, even if "all this must be done in a way that respects the Greenlandic people". Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen said Copenhagen was "open to dialogue" on the region, calling for "even closer" cooperation with the US. (...)
