Dear supporters,

I dug around in City records yesterday and found this recommendation from the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion report in November:

(1) "Increase percentage of affordable homes allocated in new developments and hold developers accountable
(2) Consider private funds that could be used for undocumented residents, those that are not US Citizens, “DACA-mented,” and mixed status households which are often restricted by government funds"

At the same time, landowners have been writing the council saying that many “empty nesters” oppose higher density development next to their “quiet” homes.

I just wrote to the City Council observing that Louisville was a town with large houses with hundreds of empty bedrooms, but limited places for middle and lower income people. “Building back better” can include changing this dynamic.

I offered solutions such as to change zoning, permits, and codes to:
- give landowners a choice of building a duplex instead of just a single family home, so they can maintain assets, choose their neighbors, and increase quality livable space
- proactively rewrite codes, etc. so that organizations like Thistle can build high quality housing for well vetted low income residents

Feel free to add your voice - to the Boulder Daily Camera if you're not in Louisville / Superior: Write to openforum@dailycamera.com

Or write to the City Council if you are from Louisville / Superior. We truly are a small town, so please write comments on the petition or to the paper rather than inundate the council if you're not from here.

If you know anyone at Thistle or Boulder County Housing, please reach out to them and let me know what you find.

Thanks, and please keep sharing the petition to get the word out and build public will to open our hearts to inclusive change!
- Beth
