As a resident of Richmond County, I fully support landowners' rights—but not when they come at the expense of other landowners and our community as a whole. Large-scale solar projects pose serious risks to our environment, property values, and public health.

The production, maintenance, and disposal of solar panels contribute to environmental pollution. Additionally, studies suggest potential health risks from chemicals that could be released in the event of accidents or malfunctions. These are risks we should not be willing to take with our community’s well-being.

Beyond these concerns, large solar farms consume vast amounts of land—land that could be better used for housing, agriculture, or preserved as natural spaces. Widespread deforestation for these projects disrupts local ecosystems, alters the climate, and negatively impacts both plant and animal life.

This is not about resisting progress, but it should not come at the cost of our health, safety, and way of life. We must find responsible alternatives that protect our community while supporting clean energy.

We urge the Town Council, Board of Supervisors, and Planning Commission of Richmond County to reconsider their stance. Let’s keep Richmond County the place we love—free from the negative impacts of large-scale solar farms.
