Prestatyn Town v Wrexham End of Season Friendly for Love Hope Strength Foundation

The Issue

On Tuesday 29th April 2025, Mike Peters of The Alarm and Big Country sadly lost his 30 year fight against blood cancer dying at the age of just 66 years of age.

Mike is a personal hero of mine, and having met him many times he was nothing short of an amazing guy - a star on the stage, writer of some brilliant hits such as 'Rain In The Summertime' and of course the legendary '68 Guns'.

As a fellow cancer survivor, I know the importance of ensuring that this horrible illness is beaten and therefore I have decided to launch this petition in the hope of both paying tribute to Mike and helping out the Love Hope Strength foundation which has done such wonderful work helping people in their hour of need.

Mike's home town is Prestatyn and, as Wrexham Football Club have recently completed yet another fantastic season with promotion to the Championship, a very special end-of-season charity friendly between Prestatyn Town and Wrexham at Bastion Gardens could be arranged between the two with the two teams competing for the inaugural Mike Peters Memorial Trophy and funds raised going towards the Love Hope Strength foundation.

A match of this calibre would be a boon for all concerned;  the hosts Prestatyn Town, the visiting team from Wrexham FC, the fans watching who would be supporting a great cause and Love Hope Strength who would hopefully benefit to the tune of a few thousand pounds.

Let's mark Mike's passing with a great tribute to him, he loved his fans and his fans loved and still love him.  If anything good can come out of this, let it be so.
