O nosso oceano está em perigo e a juventude angolana está na linha da frente porque seremos nós a sofrer as consequências. Atualmente, apenas 17,7% da terra e 7,7% do nosso oceano têm alguma forma de proteção ou conservação, mas muito disso é mal implementado ou executado. Por conseguinte, a juventude angolana está entusiasmada com o facto de a nossa nação fazer parte da High Ambition Coalition que apela a proteger e conservar efectivamente pelo menos 30% do planeta - terra e oceano - até 2030.

No entanto, apelamos agora a Angola para que se torne um líder nesta questão na comunidade Africana! Duas reuniões chave apresentam a oportunidade perfeita para fazer ouvir a voz de Angola em 30 por 30. Primeiro, a 17 de Agosto de 2021, os chefes de Estado dos membros da Comunidade de Desenvolvimento da África Austral (SADC) reunir-se-ão no Malawi e o ambiente será um tema chave abordado. Em segundo lugar, em Setembro de 2021, a Conferência Ministerial Africana sobre o Ambiente (AMCEN) reunirá também ministros de todo o continente.

Apelamos ao Presidente Lourenço e ao Ministro Fortunato para darem prioridade a 30 por 30 nestas reuniões, convocando aos outros países da SADC e outros de todo o continente a juntarem-se a esta aspiração. Por exemplo, quase 100 nações já se comprometeram a proteger e conservar pelo menos 30% do oceano global até 2030! Claro que o mundo não pode atingir 30 por 30 em todo o planeta sem respeitar os direitos e a liderança dos habitantes nascentes, comunidades locais e jovens. Da nossa parte, a juventude angolana, estamos preparados no sentido de apoiar a atingir este objectivo!

Our ocean is in peril and Angolan youth is on the frontlines because we will be the ones to suffer the consequences. Today only 17.7% of land and 7.7% of our ocean have some form of protection or conservation, but much of that is poorly implemented or enforced. Therefore, Angola’s youth are thrilled that our nation is part of the High Ambition Coalition calling to protect and effectively conserve at least 30% of the planet - land and ocean - by 2030.

However, we now call on Angola to step up and become a leader on this issue in the African community! Two key meetings present the perfect opportunity to make Angola’s voice heard on 30 by 30. First, on August 17th, 2021, Heads of State from members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will be meeting in Malawi and the environment will be a key topic discussed. Second, in September 2021, the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) will also bring together Ministers from across the continent.

We call on President Lourenço and Minister Fortunato to prioritize 30 by 30 in these meetings, calling on fellow SADC nations and others across the continent to join this ambition. For example, nearly 100 nations have already committed to protecting and conserving at least 30% of the global ocean by 2030! And of course, the world cannot reach 30 by 30 across the planet without respecting the rights and leadership of indigenous people, local communities, and youth. From us, the Angolan youth, we stand ready to support reaching this goal!
