Received response from Scorpion Programme Director, Mr Gea. He said that after discussing with his Scorpion team, they do no support asking the zoo to have the bears relocated to Wildlife Sanctuary, Colorado, USA. This is due to protests and political conditions there. Relocating the bears abroad will be a last resort. They will attempt to find places for these bears within Indonesia. I have included his response below. I also asked what their rescue plans are thus far. He said they are currently in negotiation with an animal rescue center who facility is full but they are getting quotes to build cages for the bears to live, receive medical attention and rehabilitated for eventual release in the wild. They will then negotiate with zoo to release the bears to the rescue center. Several of you have asked about donating money to feed the bears. Please go to Scorpion Wildlife Trade Monitor Group FB to make your donation. Make sure you let them know that your donation is for feeding the bears and other neglected animals in Bandung Zoo. I am hesitant to set up a GoFund for that, but if there is huge consensus for it, I will. Please continue to sign and share. We must keep up the pressure. We must be the voices for the animals in Bandung zoo and the other 93% of deplorable zoos in Indonesia. The team does not suppport Scorpion to ask for taking the bears overseas. We should try to move them to other places in Indonesia. If no other place available in Indonesia, then for possible traslocation abroad, the re quest should be from other organisation to the Minister of Environment and Forestry, but not from Scorpion.
