Good Morning All-
We revised our study of student loan debt vs. state budgets using much better, and more current data. We now can confidently say that 19 states owe more than their entire state budgets in student loan debt, and most of them are "Red States".
Georgia and Florida are- by far- the worst states, owing 169% and 148% of their state budgets in student loan debt, respectively. Ironically: In 1732, Georgia was established as a debtor's prison. Draw your own conclusions there...
We do have a few news stations in the country preparing to report on this story, but we need way more. This could and should be the game-changer for us, folks.
That any states owe more in student loans than their state budgets is astonishing. That 8 of the top (or worst) ten states are "Red States" is similarly significant.
Will you please contact your local media this weekend and tell them to report on this important story (particularly if you live in one of these states)? Say something like this:
"...Please report on this story and ask the Governor to comment on it. It is unacceptable that our state owes more in student loan debt than our entire state budget. This is sending billions out of our state, our economy, and Hobbling our citizens and our state. "
Also, point them to our petition.
Don't be limited to our list. Contact any and all media in the state (newspapers, radio stations, etc.).
We are preparing to mobilize our state chapter groups to focus like a lazer beam on this, and demand that their governors call on the President to cancel the loans. Please join yours.
This is your problem. These are your loans. This is the battle. This is your fight. We are the pioneers and thus have an obligation to fight harder. You will be glad you did.
Very Best Regards,
Alan
ps. please donate if possible. We need to raise $400 in the next couple of days to meet expenses...
