Welcome to all the new signers! We added well over 100,000 signatures over the past week, and were also featured on dozens of local news stories across the country. We are now within 40,000 signatures of hitting one million.
We've also been meeting with various key staffers in Washington, and are expecting a significant development in the next two weeks. So stay tuned.
Getting President Biden to issue the executive order cancelling all federal student loans is going to take effort, folks. We knew that going in, but it is entirely doable. The lending system is catastrohically failed by all rational metrics, and when considering all the options (especially given that very few people will likely resume paying when the payment suspension ends), and looking for the cheapest way to stimulate the economy. When considering this, it becomes obvious that ending this lending system putting in place something better becomes the obvious solution.
Please remember: everything gets easier for us when the petition grows. If we can make it to a million, there is no reason we can't make it to ten million! There are 38 million people in the country who were never going to be able to repay their federal loans even before the pandemic, so our ceiling is very high!
To that end: Will you please follow the new twitter account we just started, and also retweet this? There is a group of students from Georgia who is helping us with this new twitter handle, and they can really use your support in helping them spread the word. If everyone who signed did this, we would easily double our size!
I hope that you can appreciate that this petition, and getting to where we need to be requires more than just your signatures, unlike other petitions you may have signed.
