Good Morning All-
I'm very glad to report that we have picked up 200,000 signatures in the past 4 days, for a total of 532,000 signatures. Not bad!

However, we are going to need MILLIONS of signatures- and soon- before we succeed. Cancelling ALL federal student loans is a very big deal, and we are all going to have to make some serious efforts to turn that into reality.
Make no mistake: The "establishment" student loan cancellation plans we are hearing about are lame, partial measures that rely upon Congress to pass legislation (which will water-down what is proposed), and the Department of Education to efficiently administer whatever might ultimately be passed. This will turn lame legislation into less-impressive law. We've already seen this with the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, where less than 1% of the people who try for it actually get it.
What we are calling for will EXTINGUISH all federal loans. We are also calling for an executive order returning bankruptcy protections to the 10-15% of student loans that will remain. THIS IS WHAT IS NEEDED, WHAT HAS TO HAPPEN.
The good news is that most people with student loans (around 44 million people) should be strongly on OUR SIDE. According to the recently-resigned head of the federal program, 80% of ALL student loan borrowers will never be able to repay their loans. If you know 5 people with student loans, 4 of them are freaking out about them, whether they tell you or not! We could/should have 30 million or more signatures on this petition.
For the rest of this week, we are asking you, everyone, to get AT LEAST ONE PERSON TO SIGN THE PETITION BY THE END OF THE WEEKEND. This will get us to a million signatures.
This is what it's all about. Whether or not you participate will determine whether or not these loans are cancelled. Please think about that. These are your loans, your problem.

Come on folks. This is true grassroots. We don't have millions of dollars, the media at our fingertips, lobbyists at our service, etc. All we have is US. But WE are all we need as long as EVERYONE does their part. Pretty simple!
Please make it happen. Get at least one person to sign by the end of the weekend!
